![]() ![]() ![]() My nephew had one, it shot okay, and offered to trade me straight-up for my Father's USGI War Baby. Universal had a bad rep for a while (not to mention proprietary parts), so I'd stay away from them. Not to mention ammo availability challenges. I don't need it as I love my Mini-14s, and ammo is cheaper. After perusing M1 Carbines for sale, the Fulton Armory prices are no out of line, and for essentially a brand new one to USGI specs. They are pricey for sure but - AFIK - are compatible with USGI parts - something I don't think the Universal ones are. I've been considering a second M1 Carbine - a Fulton Armory one - to preserve my Father's M1 Carbine. She hit it with the first shot and said she proved her point. What a wonderful shooter! My late wife's first (and only) shooting experience with it was at an 8" gong at 50 yards, standing freehand. ![]() I have an original USGI War Baby with bayo lug (probably added for the Korean War). I might get one eventually so that my nephew will inherit a fine carbine, but he is a historian and REALLY wants the USGI carbine. I admire the Fulton Armory M1 Carbines for a number of reasons, but have held off due to the price and, frankly, I don't need one as long as I have my War Baby. It shot well but after doing some research, there were some safety problems with that particular production, so I declined. ![]() My nephew was gifted an Universal and offered a trade (he is going to get everything anyway, so it is just a matter of time). Thorough cleaning and decent (PMC) ammo and it was a champ and I consider it fit for home/farm defense (one of my personal requirements for most all my firearms). After sitting un-used for decades (with some cosmoline residue) and crap Tula ammo, it sorta worked. It was modified for the Korean War (bayo lug), has a National Postal Meter receiver with a Marlin barrel. It was given to my Father as he carried one in WW-II. ![]()
